Die rote Phase/The Red Period
The Red Period is a series of paintings, watercolors and objects, created from 2015 to 2021, exploring the theme 'The Burning Soul'. The vibrant colours and textured surfaces of the paintings express this burning.
Red is the colour of pain, flaming and burning. Blue is the colour of sadness, flowing yet imprisoned.Yellow is the colour of hope, clearing and nebulous.
Lost property and various materials are a metaphor for the traces left by a burning soul: open wounds, rosy flesh, purulent crusts, scarred tissue.
Some canvases are painted on both sides and should be perceived as sculptural works. Both sides must be considered as one entity, reflecting that what is visible on the surface may not always reveal what lies beneath.
